The New Porsche Panamera revealed, marks grand appearance in Thailand
Thailand, 30 September 2016. – For the first time in Thailand, AAS Auto Service (AAS), the official importer of Porsche in Thailand showcased its new Porsche Panamera Turbo to a select group of media, bloggers and prospective customers at the spectacular Sneak Preview. The event signals the arrival of the second generation Gran Turismo in the country, following its World Premiere in Berlin and appearance at the Paris Motor Show <only a day before>. Porsche spe-cially flown in the Panamera Turbo to Thailand to allow media and an exclusive group of Porsche enthusiasts to witness the all new Panamera in person. The Panamera Sneak Preview marks the introduction of the Panamera Turbo with 550 hp, Panamera 4S with 440 hp, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid with 462 hp.
Redeveloped, rethought and realigned, the new Porsche Panamera reconciles two contrasting characteristics more than ever before: it offers both the performance of a genuine sports car and the comfort of a luxury saloon. Systematically improved down to the very last detail, the Panamera is advancing to become a performance icon in the luxury class. Its engines and transmissions have been redesigned, its chassis perfected, and its display and control concept reinterpreted for the future. The design language of the new Panamera creates a link to the Porsche 911 by its even more dynamic fly line and specific design elements of the sports car icon.
“With the first generation of the Panamera, we tapped into the luxury sport saloon segment of the market. Since its launch in 2009 more than 150,000 units of the Panamera have been sold. In the new model, you see a completely redeveloped automobile – with new engines, a new design and new technologies. With design language borrowed from the iconic 911, the Panamera is on its way to becoming an icon in its own right for the sports luxury segment,” Peter Rohwer Managing Director of Porsche Thailand said.
All new V6 and V8 biturbo engines – a unique blend of efficiency and extraordinary
performance
A highly innovative family of new V6 and V8 biturbo engines has been created for the Porsche Panamera. All engines in the range feature more power, but not at the expense of economy and emissions, which have been lowered. When mated to the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK II) the engines are up to 16 percent more efficient than previous generations.
Three new biturbo direct injection engines are being introduced at the market launch: in the Panamera Turbo, the Panamera 4S. All of them may be equipped with a permanent all-wheel drive system and a new eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK). A V8 petrol engine that delivers 404 kW / 550 hp powers the Panamera Turbo and a V6 petrol engine with 324 kW / 440 hp drives the Panamera 4S.
Initially, the Panamera Turbo has the most powerful petrol engine of the model series. Its 4.0-litre biturbo V8 develops 404 kW / 550 hp (at 5,750 rpm) and a maximum torque of 770 Nm (between 1,960 and 4,500 rpm). It has 30 hp more power than the previous model, and its maximum torque has been increased by 70 Nm. The eight-cylinder engine accelerates the Panamera Turbo to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds; with the Sport Chrono Package the sprint time is just 3.6 seconds. The Porsche can reach a top speed of 306 km/h. These are impressive figures that illustrate just how easily the engine can propel the Panamera with its power-to-weight ratio of just 3.6 kg/hp. These extraordinary performance figures contrast with lower combined fuel consumption figures which, at 9.4 – 9.3 l/100 km, are up to 1.1 l/100 km less than that of the previous model (New European Driving Cycle or NEDC). These figures equate to CO2 emissions of 214 – 212 g/km.
In addition, the fourth model in the new Panamera line will also be launched. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid with controlled all-wheel drive and an electric range of 50 kilometres generates some 340 kW (462 hp) of system power and delivers fuel consumption figures of 2.5 l/100 km in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) for plug-in hybrid models. That corresponds to CO2 emissions of 56 g/km. The new Porsche plug-in hybrid always starts in purely electric mode and continues as a zero-emission vehicle up to a range of 50 kilometres and a maximum speed of 140 km/h. The all-wheel Porsche also achieves a top speed of 278 km/h and delivers a sys-tem torque of 700 Nm from stationary without hesitation. The four-door hybrid sports car breaks the 100 km/h barrier in just 4.6 seconds. The torque is transferred to all four wheels and the standard three-chamber air suspension ensures an optimum balance between comfort and dynamism at all times.
Unique 911 design language and the perfect blend of comfort and sportiness
Visually, the unique concept of this large Porsche is reflected in the new expressive design: un-mistakably a Panamera, unmistakably a sports car – with long, dynamic proportions, pronounced shoulders and athletic flanks. A roofline lowered by 20 mm at the rear creates an extremely ‘fast’ roof line, stylistically reminiscent of Porsche’s design icon, the 911.
For an even larger spread between comfort and sportiness, the Panamera now has features such as a new three-chamber air suspension, rear axle steering and the new electronic 4D Chassis Control chassis management system. Many new assistance systems also enhance ride comfort as well as safety.
Porsche is also introducing a future-oriented display and control concept for the second generation Gran Turismo. The new Porsche Advanced Cockpit with its smartphone-like user interfaces and configurable LED screens impresses with its intuitive functionality. In addition, the new Porsche Communication Management (PCM 4.1)
